If your friends are anything like ours, the truck is already half packed, and somebody has been asking about opening day since about June. We’ve been thinking about getting y’all some shirts to go along with the seasons, and then we realized, since we were at it already, we might as well put the Georgia hunting season dates in one spot so you are not digging around for them at ten o'clock the night before.
Here is what is on our calendar this year.
Dove kicks things off September 5 (RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER). It runs in a few splits into January, which is convenient for a Saturday afternoon when the house gets loud, and somebody needs to go stand in a field for a while. No judgment. We've sent ours out the door with a sandwich more than once.
Deer archery runs September 12 through October 9, either buck or doe across most of the state.
Primitive weapons and the youth season land October 10 through 16, there is an early antlerless weekend on the 3rd and 4th in most counties (but be sure to check yours).
Firearms open October 17 and go to January 10. A few counties down in SW Georgia get you to the 14th, and some of the suburban areas stay open for archery to the end of January (once again, check your local dates).
The big one, Turkey, makes us wait till spring. Private land starts March 27, public land April 3, and it wraps up May 14. There is a youth and mobility hunt the weekend before, March 20 and 21 if that’s your thing.
Now here's Natty J’s disclaimer, since the rules like to change and the either sex days are different depending on your county. Before you pack up, check your dates on the Georgia DNR site. Have your license (yes you need one) and harvest record squared away, wear your orange, and please tag us or send us a picture if you’re wearing your Natty J apparel!
We hope the season is full of all of the things that make it great, the traditions, the quality time, and the peace and quiet…well, mostly.
